5th December - Wreath Making
Sutton Veny WI Lite members
and friends met in Sutton Veny Village Hall laden with big bundles of
greenery
to learn how to make a Christmas Wreath. Mulled wine and mince pies
were provided and local expert
Lucy Pitman was on hand to show us how to do it. We used anything we
could get our hands on
from hedgerows and gardens including holly (ouch!), yew, laurel, dried
oranges,
bows and tinsel and one inventive lady even brought along a bag of
sprouts!!!
The
results were fantastic and we left feeling as if we’d made a real good
start to Christmas.
30th November 2012 - Sutton Veny Christmas Fair
Unfortunately the Sutton Veny Flower Show was rained off this summer so we joined the village and ran the Bottle Stall at the Christmas Fair. With all the bottles wrapped in newspaper, the skill was to pick the bottle filled with wine not water! We raised £51.
7th November 2012 - David Kjaer, Wildlife Photographer
We were treated to an evening with David Kjaer, a renowned freelance wildlife photographer based in Warminster who kindly joined us at short notice to give us both an insight into the basics of photography and also a really marvellous presentation of images of British wildlife. We soon realised what an immense and diverse topic digital photography was. There were lots of different questions and David took us all through how to get the most of our compact cameras, touching on aperture, shutter speed, making sure our camera is on the correct settings and importantly what settings to consider when photographing different subjects. These days using photoshop plays a huge part in photography and David ran through a number of useful settings that can be found within the programme and gave us a number of tips on how to make our images look sharper and better lit. The second part of the evening was an hour of viewing some of David’s wonderful Autumn and Winter Wildlife images, mainly of wildfowl but also Deer and The Great Bustard which he has been allowed to photograph on Salisbury Plain.
